Memoir

I remember the time i got first in a dance competition. I was six years old and so was my friend, Celena. We did a very cute tap dance to a song called "The Dirty Boogie". After all the dances were done we all sat and waited on stage for what felt like forever. Finally they started to call names. After 9 pairs of names were called, they called up me and Celena to the front of the stage. A bald man, who looked to be about 40, was waiting there. He handed me a trophy that was the color of gold and shined like a millions diamonds!

"Girls, what are your names?" He asked us.

I replied with, "uhhhh... I'm Alli and this is Celena." We spoke softly, we were so confused why we were standing at the front of the stage. Plus, we didn't know why this man handed us a trophy. It was our first dance competition ever and we didn't really get the whole point of it.

"It's alright girls, I understand your being so quiet. You girls are just shy." The man said to us. But we weren't shy, we were just confused.
"Please just go stand by the other dancers in line."
We did as he said and stood in line with nine other pairs of dancers. Finally the man told us why we were in line. We were in the top ten for duets! Even better, We got first place out of all of the duets! After everybody's name and place was called we all sat down on stage again while everybody applouded. After about 15 more minutes of "name calling", we were called up to the satge again. Celena was holding our first trophy so the man again handed me a new trophy. We had won top dance, meaning our dance was the best of all the dances the judges had seen that night! They told us that there was over 100 dances, and we were good enough to beat them all! Being as cute as we were probably helped a bit too!

  1. Nice incorporation of dialouge and some of your thoughts (confusion) Was there fear? A shared look between the two of you? "The bald man" is funny; it made me laugh that you remembered that about him. I'd like some of your thoughts about what you felt/saw/heard from on stage. That would add an interesting element and really personalize your account

  2. Thats so awesome that you guys won the competition! I love that you guys are just the little girls that beat all of the dancers that were dancing their whole lives! Love it!

  3. That would be sweet to win first place! I can't really say it would be sweet to win it in dance because I don't dance, but it still probably made you feel good.

  4. Were the dancers you danced against all older than you? Or were they the same age? That's something you might've wanted to say. But a pretty good memoir overall.
